  • Success?!

Left Hive: Well, somehow it worked itself out. There are some frames that aren’t drawn out but there are also frames with brood and honey.Bees were happy and easy to work with but too many hive beetles. Right Hive: The super still has no drawn frames. Weird? Thinking I might add a top feeder. When…

  • Split?

Well this is a strange one… I am declaring bankruptcy on the left hive. No queen, when I tried to move some brood over they didn’t make a queen. I took off all the deeps from the left hide and shook off the few bees (<100) that were still there. On the right hive I…

  • Normal Inspection

Left Hive: Still struggling. They did take all the 1:1 Right Hive: Wow – they’re really doing well. I did observe lots (2 dozen) of hive beetles. I squared about half of them. I’m thinking the beetle traps need bait? Or oil instead of water. I did see some some beetles in the trap dead……

  • Inspection with Ty

Left Hive: Still struggling Right Hive: No major changes. Ty spotted the Queen!

  • Full Inspection

Left Hive is still underwhelming. Obviously no queen at this point. I quickly confirmed they don’t have many beetles. I pulled one frame and set to the side and replaced with a frame of brood and eggs from the Right Hive. Right Hive I don’t know if this hive is doing well or average. Compared…

  • Quick Inspection

No major change in either hive. Few beetles.

  • Full Inspection

Left Hive: Installed a hive beetle trap. Not many were observed. Some brood has hatched and that frame is being reused for eggs. I definitely saw Larva! Queen was not seen but I’m still struggling to see eggs. Added another quart of 1:1 Right Hive: Installed a hive beetle trap. Still no brood. I didn’t…

  • Food Top up and Quick Check

Given the state of the queen (or lack of) in the left hive I opted for a quick check while topping up food. Both hives needed 1:1. Left hive had a queen cup. I looked at 3 frames in the right hive to see if there was an obvious one with eggs to move over.…

  • Full Inspection

Right Hive: Hive looks good. Capped brood, honey. Queen was not spotted but clearly she is there and has been busy. Easy hive to work in. Really happy with this hive. Left Hive: Comb drawn out, but no brood or queen observed.

  • Feeder top up

Swapped feeders because right hive is still eating way more. This will check to make sure that one isn’t leaking. Added a full quart minus 1/2” of 1:1 left hive (formerly feeder was on right). Which means they ate it all in 2 days! Added ~1/2 quart to the right hive (formerly feeder we on…
